God Saw a Canvas, Not a Flaw
God saw the dark and void earth as an opportunity, not merely a flaw. As the Spirit hovered, God was building, reconstructing, and re-establishing.
In Genesis, the earth was dark and void — something was out of place. That condition caused God to release a solution. He did not look at the earth as flawed or marred; He looked at it as a canvas, an opportunity.
The Scripture says the Holy Spirit “hovered” over the deep. That word comes from the Hebrew Rachaph — to shake, to brood, to stutter. While the Spirit hovered, God was building, reconstructing, and re-establishing.
“And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
What looks like chaos to us is a canvas to God.
The Shaking Principle
Paul and Silas worshipped in prison. When the building shook, the doors opened. A shaking season can become an opportunity to see God’s hand.
When Paul and Silas were in prison, they worshipped — and the building began to shake. It was in a state of brooding, and in that state God caused the prison doors to fly open.
You may be in a shaking period right now. Don’t focus on the shaking or on the fact that things aren’t going the way you planned. God is using this opportunity to show His hand.
“But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God… suddenly there was a great earthquake… and immediately all the doors were opened.”
The shaking is not the story — what God opens through the shaking is.
What God Was Re-Establishing
The teaching identifies three things God was re-establishing: His rule, His reign, and His government. The gospel of the Kingdom is not merely a message of escape, but of government.
While the Holy Spirit hovered, God was re-establishing three things:
This is the gospel of the Kingdom — not merely a message of escape, but of government.
His rule. His reign. His government.
The Hub Vision
The hub brings sons together, collaborating their gifts to express what they have seen, heard, and experienced of heaven. As His ecclesia, the emphasis is on His Kingdom, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and laws.
When Pastor Regina and I were in East Pointe, God began giving us the vision of a hub. Apostle Davis told us: “If you don’t see a pattern, that means you are the pattern.”
We are a hub — a collective of sons coming together, collaborating our gifts to express and act out what we have seen, heard, and experienced of what is going on in the heavens.
What makes us different: we are His ecclesia. We are different than the church as an institution — we are His legislation. We teach and preach the gospel of His Kingdom:
- His rule, His reign, His government
- His sovereignty, His jurisdiction, His laws
“…on this rock I will build My church [ecclesia].”
“If you don’t see a pattern, that means you are the pattern.”
— Apostle DavisKingdom Identity
Identity is the foundation of authority. Knowing who you are in the Kingdom moves you from imitating at a distance to expressing from within.
Before your relationship with Jesus, He was an example for you. Now that you have a relationship with Jesus, Christ is an example of you.
Identity is the foundation of authority. When you know who you are in the Kingdom, you stop imitating from a distance and start expressing from within.
“Before your relationship with Jesus, He was an example for you. Now that you have a relationship with Jesus, Christ is an example of you.”
God’s Continuum
God’s continuum is the unbroken reality of His nature, purpose, presence, and Kingdom moving through time and generations. Circumstances and cultures change, but God’s character and ultimate purpose remain constant.
A continuum is something that doesn’t exist as isolated pieces — it flows from one point into another. Applied to God: His continuum is the unbroken reality of His nature, purpose, presence, and kingdom moving through time and generations — the movement of His eternal nature and purpose through creation, time, generations, and human lives, without God Himself changing.
Circumstances change, generations change, cultures change, and our understanding can mature — but God’s character and ultimate purpose remain constant.
“For I am the LORD, I do not change.”
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
God’s nature and purpose continue without God Himself changing.
A Burden for the Gospel
A burden for the gospel drives us to seek God’s original intent and further His Kingdom. The teaching asks how we institute Heaven’s ecosystem and release Heaven’s technology.
In order for you and I to change, we have to have a burden for the gospel — without it, there is no change. That burden drives us to ask:
- How do we get back to God’s original intent?
- How do we further God’s kingdom?
- How do we institute Heaven’s ecosystem?
- How do we release Heaven’s technology?
A burden for the gospel moves us toward change.
The Dominion Mandate
Our responsibility is to have dominion, multiply, replenish, subdue, and become one. Identity releases creativity; creativity creates opportunities, and opportunities can win souls beyond the altar call.
Everywhere we go, everywhere we step, our responsibility is to:
That is what we have been created for. The only thing our organized religious institutions have taught us to do is win souls — yet the Scripture says he who wins souls is wise. The two are not in conflict:
Your identity allows you to tap into your creative nature. Creativity creates opportunities — and opportunities win souls. Winning souls goes beyond bringing individuals to church and bringing them to the altar.
“…he who wins souls is wise.”
“Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion…”
Kingdom responsibility and winning souls are not in conflict.
Discussion & reflection questions
-
1Where in your life right now does something look “dark and void” — and how would it change your response to see it as God’s canvas?
-
2Are you in a shaking season? What would it look like to worship in the middle of it, like Paul and Silas, instead of focusing on the shaking?
-
3What does it mean practically for us to function as God’s ecclesia — His legislation — rather than just a gathering?
-
4If Christ is now “an example of you,” what should change about how you carry yourself in your family, work, and community?
-
5How does the unchanging nature of God (His continuum) anchor you when cultures and circumstances shift?
-
6Which part of the dominion mandate — dominion, multiply, replenish, subdue, become one — is most underdeveloped in your life, and what is one step you can take this week?
-
7How can your God-given creativity open doors to win souls beyond the altar call?
